HOUGHTON, NY— The Hartwick Hawks muscled their way to a convincing victory over the Houghton Highlanders on Friday night, 90-63.
The Hawks out-rebounded the Highlanders, 47-to-30, including a 16-to-7 advantage on the offensive glass.
Hartwick built a 22-point halftime lead, thanks in large part to 14 Houghton turnovers and a 10-for-20 (50%) sharp-shooting effort from beyond the arc.
While the Highlanders took better care of the ball in the second half, committing only seven turnovers and causing 12 from the Hawks, they grabbed only one offensive board.
Houghton played within five points of the Hawks in the second half, but could not gain ground on the sizable first-half deficit.
