HOUGHTON, NY— The St. John Fisher Cardinals dominated the glass on Saturday afternoon, outrebounding the Houghton Highlanders, 53-25, in a 69-56 victory.
Despite the Highlanders shooting a higher percentage from the floor (40.4%-to-36.9%), the Cardinals work on the boards gave them 13 more shots, enough to create the margin of victory.
After trailing the majority of the game, Houghton played Fisher evenly throughout the third and made their move in the final ten minutes. Trailing by 15,
Emie Taylor converted a three-point play and another layup, and
Hannah Cybart drained a three to cut the Cardinals lead to nine points.
The two teams then continued to trade baskets over the remaining minutes and the Highlanders could pull no closer. Fisher converted three free throws in a row down the stretch to secure the final score.
