KEUKA PARK, NY – The Houghton Highlanders field hockey team overcame an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the Keuka Wolves, 2-1, earning their first victory of the season.
The Wolves scored in the second minute of the game when Alyssa Muszak beat her defender down the right side of the field and put away the first shot of the game.
Houghton answered less than five minutes into the second quarter when
Peyton Bentley banked home the first goal of her career off a rebound from
Leanne Plunkett.
Just over five minutes later,
Sydney Jameson deposited the eventual game-winner on a loose ball in front of the net.
The two teams locked into a defensive struggle in the third before the Wolves created several chances in the final period. The Highlander defense, however, held strong, fending off the Keuka attack to seal the win.

COACH'S CORNER
"It was exciting to see us put some goals away today!
"When we were able to control the possession of the game we made some great combinations happen, offensively.
"The goal moving forward is to have more consistent play for the entire 60 minutes. Keuka was able to apply a lot of threatening pressure in the final quarter, and we really can't allow that." - Head Coach
Hannah Ogden
