ONEONTA, NY – The Houghton Highlanders took three-straight close sets from the Hartwick Hawks on Saturday, earning their 11
th victory of the season and improving to 2-0 in the Empire 8 Conference.
With the Highlanders up by a set and the score tied, 23-23, in the second set,
Amy Huddell put away a set from
Haley Unverdorben to put the Highlanders up by one, and a ball-handling error by the Hawks gave Houghton a two-set advantage.
In the third set, the two teams continued to battle throughout, with neither team earning more than a four-point advantage. After
Morgan Potempa served back-to-back aces to put the Highlanders up 24-20, the reeled off three straight points. But an attack error by the Hawks ended the set, and the match, in Houghton's favor.
