Highlanders Claim First Home Victory

Houghton, NY The Houghton College Women's Soccer team notched their second win of the regular season in an exciting 2-1 victory over D'Youville College.

In an intense game of back-and-forth soccer, the Highlanders registered the first score of the game when junior Stephanie Beattie (Maitland, ON/St. Mary's) fielded a Tess Schilke (Houghton, NY/Fillmore) pass in stride and found the bottom-left corner of the goal.

Just over three minutes later, D'Youville answered with a Katelyn Eigenbrod goal.

The teams went into halftime with the scoreboard reading 1-1.

In the second half, junior Kealy DeForest (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) found the net to give the Highlanders a 2-1 lead which they worked to maintain until time expired.

COACH'S CORNER

"I am really pleased with the way the team fought tonight to earn this victory. The way we played tonight showed tangible examples of the improvement we have made since the start of the season. This team has been putting in work during practice. Tonight we had some subs step up into some really key roles and change the game for us. We have talked about being ready for our moments whenever they might come and they were ready. Now we are back to work tomorrow with the desire to play even better."  - Coach Nikki Elsaessar
