HOUGHTON, NY – Houghton field hockey returned home to take on Oneonta on Wednesday, but the Highlanders came up on the short end of a 3-1 score.
The Red Dragons got on the board in the first three minutes of the contest and added another goal just two minutes later to take a 2-0 lead.
The Highlanders battled back to pull within a goal in the 21st minute off a shot from freshman
Lindsey Waters. Oneonta would score again late in the third quarter for the final margin.
Oneonta outshot Houghton, 27-2, and had a commanding 20-1 edge in penalty corners.
Sarah Olandt made 12 saves in net.

The Highlanders return to Burke Field on Wednesday, September 11 at 7:00 when they will take on the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons. Oneonta won last year's matchup, 4-1.
