HOUGHTON, NY. -- These were some close games for the Highlanders as they took on Elmira College. In both games a big hit would allow the Highlanders to break away a little and Elmira would continue to not put up any earned runs.
Game 1
Houghton 3, Elmira 2
Taylor Sile came through for the Highlanders in game 1, a hot bat would produce Houghton's three runs. In the first inning
Lauren Couturier singled to start off the game, she would make her way to third after a stolen base and advancement on the throw.
Taylor Sile capitalized on the opportunity and smacked a triple, allowing
Lauren Couturier to score. Another hit from
Taylor Sile in the third inning would allow
Lauren Couturier and
Hannah Haskell to score. Giving the Highlanders a 3-0 lead early into the game. Errors late in the seventh inning would give Elmira two runs, making it seem like they had a chance to come back or go into extra innings. However, after a groundout to the shortstop, Houghton was able to make the last out and hold onto the win.

Game 2
Houghton 3, Elmira 0
A close game for the Highlanders, as both teams remained scoreless until Houghton broke away again from Elmira in the sixth inning. Starting off the sixth inning,
Hannah Haskell and
Taylor Sile would both continue to have hot bats for Houghton as they both singled to get on base. A groundout would then put both runners on in scoring position, where
Mariah Rogers would be next up to bat.
Mariah Rogers comes in big for the Highlanders and smashes a three run homerun over the left field fence, putting Houghton up 3-0. Houghton would then finish the game and Elmira would remain scoreless.
