HOUGHTON N.Y. - Houghton women's lacrosse turned in a strong effort against one of the top teams in the Empire 8 but came up on the short end of a 16-6 score to Utica College on Saturday on Burke Field.
With the loss, the Highlanders closed out their 2019 season with a record of 5-10. It marks the fifth-straight season the team reached the five-win mark.
The Pioneers scored in the first minute to go up 1-0 before
Marissa Hews tied the score with her first of four goals just over a minute later. The visitors then exploded for 12-straight goals over the next 35 minutes to take control. Houghton made a run at the end, scoring four-straight goals to pul within 13-6, but the Pioneers scored three more to put the game away.
Cori Beck closed the scoring for the Highlanders in the last :33 seconds.
