HOUGHTON, NY – After a slow start to senior day, Houghton would end in a split with Nazareth in today's conference doubleheader. Houghton would lose the first game but, would not go down easy in the second game. Houghton Softball would upset the Golden Flyers in five innings during game two, giving them a win for their fellow seniors on senior day.
Game 1
Houghton 2, Nazareth 3
A good start for the Highlanders falls short for them in the long run. Getting a 2-0 lead on Nazareth in the first inning, would not be enough to hold onto the win. Even with only 5 hits, the Golden Flyers were able to capitalize in three innings vs. Houghton's first inning. An error in the top of the seventh would push Nazareth to a 3-2 lead. In the Highlanders last at-bats, Houghton could not get a rally started to keep the game going into extra innings
Game Notes
Game 2 (5 innings)
Houghton 10, Nazareth 0
The Highlanders would again start off strong, this time producing a 7-0 lead early into the game. Another good game for
Hannah Haskell as she produced the game's first runs, with a two-run double to center field. With the momentum in favor of Houghton, they would continue to keep the bats going in the second and fourth innings, allowing them to finish the game in five innings. With fellow senior
Kaylee Jentsch on base,
Taylor Sile utilizes her last at-bat on senior day with a home run to really push past the Golden Flyers.
