Women's Lax Cruises to Win over Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. – Houghton women's lacrosse tied a program-record in goals scored with a 23-9 win over The Sage Colleges on Friday.

The Highlanders defeated Hilbert 23-4 during the 2014 season. The team also set a program mark with 25 draw controls. 

Individually, the Cori Beck, Meagan Barry and Marissa Hews each tallied six goals, marking the first time three Highlander teammates scored at least five goals in a single game.

It took just 30 seconds for the game to see its first goal as the Gators jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Houghton got the equalizer three minutes later and added four more goals over the next 1:34 to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Sage responded with another goal less than a minute later before Houghton scored twice more to go up 7-2. The Gators would get no close than four goals the rest of the way.

The Highlanders led 14-7 at the half and outscored the Gators 9-2 in the second half, including the final eight goals of the contest.

  • Marissa Hews finished with 6 goals and a career-high 10 draw controls. It marked the sixth time in her career, fourth time this season and second-straight game she has scored at least six goals
