Softball Suffers Tough Loss At Home

HOUGHTON, NY -- Sage sweeps the Highlanders today in two close games. The Highlanders battled in both games but could not manage to come up with a win today. In both games, Houghton came to play in the first few innings, but the Gators would rally back to push themselves ahead each game.

Game 1
Houghton 3, Sage 7

After what looked like to be a slow start for both teams, Houghton capitalized with back to back singles and an error in the field to put runners in scoring position. McKenzie Marti would use bases loaded, hitting a triple to give the Highlanders a 3-0 lead. After a few scoreless innings, the Gators would soon break away in a big fifth inning comeback, and put up two more runs in the seventh inning, as the Highlanders would remain scoreless.

Games Notes
Game 2
Houghton 5, Sage 6

After coming off a loss, Houghton would not look fazed as they came out strong in the first inning giving them a 3-1 lead on the Gators. With runners on third and second, Taylor Sile would hit a big double allowing runners to score. After Taylor Sile stole third, Katie Jones would bring her in with a sacrifice fly giving the Highlanders a two-run lead. Houghton would battle back and forth for a few innings until Sage broke away with a huge sixth inning. A single with an error and a hit by pitch would give the Gators two runners in position, allowing Emily Agate to capitalize, hitting a single that would allow runners to score and put Sage up by one. Hannah Haskell would try to lead Houghton in a seventh-inning rally, with a single and advancement to second base on a past ball. However, with a runner in scoring position, the Highlanders would not be able to hit her in to tie the game.

Game Notes
  • Caitlyn Cybart would lead Houghton with 2 hits
  • Taylor Sile had the only double for the Highlanders and 2 RBIs
  • Taylor Sile could not be stopped stealing bases on Sage and finished with 3
  • The Highlanders finished with 7 hits
