The Houghton Men’s Tennis Team fell behind early in the match against Daemen College after dropping 3 doubles points.

The Houghton Men's Tennis Team fell behind early in the match against Daemen College after dropping 3 doubles points. Close doubles play saw Daemen's number one pair defeat Houghton's Louis-Guillaume Garcia and Jake Fisler 8-6. Daemen's number two doubles defeated Zach Shilvock and Dylan Scherer 8-5. Later on Houghton's Ethan Baker and Ethan Yung were bested 8-4 by Daemen's Milner and O'Brein at number three doubles.

Early singles play showed Houghton their first victory thanks to senior Zach Shilvock. Shilvock's solid mental and physical tennis earned him a 6-2, 6-2 defeat over Daemen's Fabian Wilde, keeping Houghton in the match. However, closely contested defeats at number one and three singles saw the match clinch go to Daemen. Houghton college sophomore Dylan Scherer was able to pull out the Highlander's only other win of the night: 6-2, 6-4 after being down in the second set.

"The guys played fine, and a few played excellent. There were just a couple of courts that got a slow start, and a couple of courts where we didn't convert on big points. Credit to Daemen, they play very solid and consistent tennis. I think we waivered up and down compared to them, and that shows in the scoring. However, we're improving at that, and I think matches like this show the level we can play to when we play well. So I'm excited to take this match, learn from it, and move forward as a team." – Head Coach Tonya McGraner
