AURORA, N.Y. -- Houghton softball set several team and individual records in a doubleheader sweep of Wells College on Thursday. Houghton claimed game 1 by a 14-1 score and took the nightcap, 21-3.
Both games were called after five innings. The Highlanders scored at least two runs in each inning played and scored at least three in seven innings.
The 21 runs scored in game 2 was a program record, as was the 35 total runs over the two games. Game 1 also featured a team-record four triples, and game 2 saw
McKenzie Marti tie a program mark with five hits and set a new record with five runs scored.
Taylor Sile scored five runs on the day, moving alone into first place in career runs scored with 81. Sile now owns the career marks for runs, hits, RBI, doubles, home runs, walks, batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
Game 1
Houghton 14, Wells 1 (5 innings)
The Highlanders opened the first game with three runs in the top of the first, and added nine more runs over the next three innings, including five in the fourth, to go up 12-0.
Taylor Sile pitched a masterful game, allowing no hits through the first three innings, but the Express were able to break through in the fourth with their first hit and run. Houghton added two more runs in the top of the fifth to close the scoring.
Game 1 Notes
- Eight different Highlanders produced hits with 10 players scoring runs.
- Lauren Couturier led the way with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate and drove in two runs.
- Andrea Taboni was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
- Barbara Richert added two hits and three RBI
- Sile finished with two hits, two runs and four RBI. She also pitched five innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven.
Game 2
Houghton 21, Wells 3
Houghton produced 18 hits in the second game and took advantage of 10 Express errors. The Highlanders put three runs on the board in each of the first three innings. After allowing three runs to the Express in the bottom of the third, Houghton tacked on eight runs in the fourth and four in the fifth.

- McKenzie Marti was 5-for-6 with five runs and an RBI.
- Hannah Haskell finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs
- Sile was 2-for-3 at the plate, adding three runs, two RBI and two walks
- Mariah Rogers and Andrea Taboni added two hits apiece, with Taboni contributing three runs
- Kaylee Jentsch pitched 2.2 innings, allowing four hits and three runs
- Hannah Cybart pitched the final 2.1 innings with two hits and no runs allowed.
