Softball Pushes Win Streak to Four Games in Sweep of Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- Houghton softball got two pitching performances from seniors Kaylee Jentsch and Taylor Sile as the Highlanders swept Keuka College, 6-1 and 1-0, in Wednesday's doubleheader on the road.

The wins pushed the Highlander win streak to four games and their overall record to 5-11 on the year.

Game 1
Houghton 6, Keuka 1

Houghton fell behind 1-0 in the third inning, but scored two runs each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take the win.

Game 1 Notes Game 2
Houghton 1, Keuka 0 (8 innings)

The second game of the night was a pitcher's duel between Taylor Sile and Keuka's Whitney Tyler. The game was scoreless through seven innings, but Houghton took advantage of the international tie-breaker in the top of the eighth. With Lauren Couturier placed on second base to start the inning, Hannah Haskell promptly roped an RBI single to bring home her teammate and stake the Highlanders to a 1-0 lead.

Despite not being able to get more runs across the plate, Houghton got what it needed from Sile in the bottom of the inning. The senior allowed a walk but struck out the other three batters she faced to take the win.

Game 2 Notes
  • Sile allowed just five hits over eight innings, striking out five and walking one
  • Houghton finished with seven hits, led by Haskell's 2-for-4 performance. Haskell also picked up an RBI and stole a base
COACH'S CORNER

I am proud of this team's grit and ability to get the job done in high pressure situations!" -- Head Coach Katie Sinclair
