Houghton women's tennis was unable to score a point in a 9-0 loss to the RIT Tigers in Tuesday afternoon's match.
A quick opening round of doubles saw the Highlanders down 0-3 headed into their singles competition with the opposing team. Freshman
Tessa Brown and
Maddison Soth were able to start out their match against RIT's Casalnova and Steinbrink at a close 2-3, but the Tigers managed to close out the match without dropping another game.
Despite some competitive periods of play, Houghton only managed to convert points to games in three of the six singles matches.
"We played fine," said Head Coach
Tonya McGraner. "Better even than some days when we have won. RIT is the kind of program we strive to compete with, and it will take time and effort to get there. I think the girls did a great job carrying over the topics we've been focused on in practice to their match play. These are just the type of losses you need to have to get better."
The Highlanders will not resume match play until March 19Â when they will face PSU Behrend at home.
