Late Highlanders Rally Falls Short Against Hamilton

HOUGHTON, NY— The Hamilton College Continentals fended off a late rally by the Houghton Highlanders, picking up their sixth win of the season, 65-56.

A strong second quarter gave the Continentals a nine-point lead at the half.  Houghton opened the second with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to two, but Hamilton rallied to outscore the Highlanders over the final eight minutes of the quarter, 18-2, building an 18-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes.

Again Houghton started the final quarter strong, reeling off an 11-0 run over the first three minutes—nine of those points scored by Brooke Lewandowski—to trim the deficit to only seven points.  Again the Continentals responded, posting a 10-2 run of their own to push the lead back to 15 points.

While Houghton continued to scrap over the remaining minutes, they could not overcome the Hamilton lead.
