SCRANTON, PA—Cold shooting and a tough day on the boards proved a lethal combination for the Houghton men's basketball team, as the Highlanders lost the consolation game of the Hilton Scranton Men's Basketball Invitational Tournament to Sarah Lawrence College, 96-59.
The Highlanders shot just over 35 percent from the field for the game, including only 26 percent in the first half, while the Gryphons converted over 50 percent of their shots in both halves.
Sarah Lawrence also pulled down 51 rebounds, including 16 on the offensive boards, while Houghton managed only 25 total rebounds and only four on the offensive end.
The Gryphons scored the game's first 15 points and never looked back, holding a 26-point advantage at the half.
Houghton pulled things together in the second 20 minutes, shooting 45 percent from the floor and an impressive 9-of-17 (53 percent) from beyond the arc.
