Huddell, Lewandowski Lead Highlanders Past Blue Devils

Potempa Notches 1,000th Dig

HOUGHTON, NY – Amy Huddell and Brooke Lewandowski combined for 28 kills to lead the Houghton Highlanders to their seventh consecutive victory, a four-set win over the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devils.

Huddell tied a career-high with 15 kills while Lewandowski, last week's Empire 8 Player of the Week, picked up 13 kills while committing only one attack error.

With the match tied at one set apiece, and Fredonia leading, 18-15, Haley Unverdorben dumped a kill to spark a Houghton rally.  Rebekah Clark then picked up four consecutive service points to give Houghton a two point lead.

The Blue Devils regained the lead, 21-20, thanks to a pair of aces and a Houghton attack error, but the Highlanders reeled off five straight points to take the crucial third set.

The two teams battled throughout the fourth, never separating by more than three points until late in the set.

After Fredonia picked up five straight points to take a 21-17 advantage, Houghton regained their footing, accented by a pair of emphatic Huddell kills to pull within one.  The Highlanders benefited down the stretch as the Blue Devils committed three attack errors and a service error to close out the match.
