Houghton, NY – The Houghton Highlander's offense kicked things into high gear as they picked up their second consecutive conference win and third win in a row overall. The team took down the visiting Elmira College Soaring Eagles by a score of 7-0.
The first half was all Highlanders.
Elisabeth Tate gave the home team the early lead with her 18-yard score to get the action started in the 8
th minute of the contest.
Leading scorer,
Sierra Neddo, netted one to extend the Highlander lead to 2-0 just five minutes later.
In the 17
th minute,
Kealy DeForest found the net to extend the lead yet again.
Shortly thereafter, freshman,
Mary Doell caught fire. She scored the next three goals for the Highlanders to stretch the lead to 6-0 with just over 19-minutes left to play in the first half.
Six minutes into the second half, DeForest connected on a
Tess Schilke pass for her second goal of the game giving the Highlanders the 7-0 lead which they would maintain until the horn sounded.
With one game remaining in the regular season, the Highlanders find themselves in a tie for 5
th place with Utica College in the Empire 8 standings. Their next matchup will be against the Alfred University Saxons. A win against the Saxons could give the Highlanders a shot at making Empire 8 post-season play.
