Canton, NY – The Houghton College Women's Soccer team secured a 4-1 victory on the road at SUNY Canton on Thursday night. The Highlander's win snapped a four-game drought.
The Highlanders jumped out to a 1-0 lead as team scoring leader
Sierra Neddo netted her 9
th goal of the season at the 11-minute mark off of a
Kealy DeForest assist.
Less than two minutes later, Sarah Riedel answered for the Kangaroos to tie things up.
After the early action, the Highlanders controlled the game registering eight shots in the remainder of the first half, but to no avail. The teams entered halftime with an even 1-1 score.
In the second half, Houghton's offense caught fire. 10 minutes into the half,
Mikayla Gaffney sent a pass from the end-line to the 18-yard mark where
Moriah Steffen connected with her left foot and dropped the goal over the outstretched reach of the Canton keeper to give the Highlanders the lead.
12-minutes later, Houghton's
Mary Doell snuck a low shot into the bottom-left corner of the net from 18 yards out to extend the Highlander lead to 3-1.
With three minutes left to play,
Alexa Hoag launched a shot from 25-yards out that floated through the air, grazed the keeper's mitts, and bounced into the goal. The Highlanders held on to their 4-1 lead until time expired.
