ALFRED, NY— For the second time this season the Alfred University Saxons outdueled the Houghton College Highlanders, winning the home end of this year's twinbill, 85-65.
The Saxons never trailed, scoring the game's opening points on the three-pointer by Cole Eells and rolled through the first half, leading at the break, 55-25.
On the night, Alfred's hot hand from long range would rule the day, as they knocked down 16 three-point shots at a 53 percent clip.
Houghton continued to fight throughout the second half, outscoring Alfred in the second 20 minutes, 35-30, but the Highlanders could not overcome the large first half deficit and never trailed by fewer than 25 points.
Scottie Berghaus finished with a career-high 19 points for the Highlanders, sinking 5-of-10 shots from beyond the arch.
