HOUGHTON, NY— The Highlanders had a tough task in Wednesday evening softball action as they hosted Empire 8 Conference opponent Alfred University. On this evening, the Saxons pitching proved to be superior as Alfred swept Houghton 0-6 and 0-1 at Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex.

Game 1: Hot bats in the top of the fifth inning allowed the Saxons to take a quick 4-0 lead. Strong pitching kept the Highlanders away from the bases and only allowed two hits on the game. Alfred added two more in the seventh to close out the game.
 
Jessica Wilcox (8-3) earned the win with a complete game shutout for the Saxons. For Houghton, Taylor Sile finished 1-for-3 with a double.
 
Game 2: Houghton errors and a single to the right-field drove in the Saxons only run of the game in the top of the first inning.
 
The nightcap still saw the Highlanders struggling at the plate with three hits due to a shutout performance by Saxons' pitcher Shannon Schaefer (8-3).
 
KEY STATS:
>> Saxon outhit the Highlanders 15-2 in game one and 5-3 in game two.
 
>> Game two saw three errors from the Highlanders, while the Saxon collected one.
