Houghton Softball Notches Two More Wins

HOUGHTON, NY—The Houghton Highlanders posted a pair on Saturday evening defeating the Medaille Mavericks 3-2 in game one, and later 8-0 in game two.

Game 1: Houghton rallied in the top of the sixth and maintained great defense in the seventh to extend the game. With the softball international rule in play, Houghton was able to put a runner on second to start the top of the eighth. With one out left, Mariah Rogers rips a double scoring both Taylor Sile and Katie Jones.

Medaille next at-bat looked to take the lead plating one, but the Highlanders were able to hold the Mavericks securing the win.

Game 2: Houghton closed the series with style recording eight runs off of 12 hits, and seven RBIs. The Highlanders took a 6-0 lead in the top of the 6th after Lauren Couturier tripled to the right-field advancing McKenzie Marti and Taylor Dillenbeck. Sile followed up with a single to the left field scoring Couturier.

Houghton tacked on a couple insurance runs in the seventh when a Medaille wild pitch and Dillenbeck single resulted in a couple.

KEY STATS:
>> As a team, the Highlanders collected a total of six hits and 10 RBIs.

>> Both Tanya Hatton (3-3) and Kaylee Jentsch (4-1) remained in the circle for 8 innings each winning both pitching decisions.

>> Houghton out hit Medaille 6-4 and 12-6.

Houghton will be back at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex for a doubleheader on April 3rd against St. John Fisher. Games will be played at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
