HOUGHTON, NY – Three different players found the back of the net and
Gabe VanWyk served up two assists as the Houghton Highlanders rolled past the Hartwick Hawks on the Burke Field pitch Wednesday night, 3-0.
Houghton controlled the pace of play, looking for seams and gaps on the attack while Hartwick seemed content to sit back in the defensive third and play for the quick counter attack.
The Highlanders broke through on a corner kick in the 29
th minute when VanWyk played an outswinging ball to the six, where
Elijah Steffen, freshly into the match, nailed a header past the keeper.
With less than four minutes to go before the half, Houghton struck again, this time when a Hartwick defender placed an errant pass back to the keeper and
Brice Bogna took the ball away and touched into the goal for his fifth tally of the season.
The final notch on the scoreboard came in the 65
th minute when VanWyk struck a well-placed free kick from 30 yards out into the box, where Ben Dicrasto collected it and banged home is fourth goal of the year.

COACH'S CORNER
"I was proud of our guys tonight for the discipline they showed. Hartwick's tactic was very defensive and try to counter. Our guys stayed patient with the ball and didn't force the play, which limited Hartwick's opportunities in transition.
"We didn't generate as many chances as we might have wanted in a game like this, but we managed the game well and kept the ball out of our net. We are looking forward to our game with Alfred on Saturday." -Head Coach
Matthew Webb
