HOUGHTON, N.Y.—Brittany Lenart scored 16 points and
Emily Swanson grabbed nine boards as the Highlanders improve to 7-3 in conference play (11-8 overall) in a 57-43 win over Alfred University Tuesday night.
The Highlanders came out hot in the first quarter shooting 42.1% from the field resulting in a 20-10 lead going into the second quarter. Although the Saxons outscored the Highlanders, 14-12 in the second quarter, Houghton continued to protect their lead and went to the locker room with an eight-point lead at the half.
Things started to slow down for the Highlanders in the second half when Alfred went on an 6-0 run in the third quarter. The Highlanders didn't see their first bucket of the half until the 3:06 mark, which gave them a 34-32 lead. Houghton expounded on that lead ending the quarter 43-35.
The final quarter proved to be the nail in the coffin for the Saxons as the Highlanders continued to maintain their lead ultimately taking the game, 57-43.
