ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Houghton Highlanders' four-game winning streak came to an end in heartbreaking fashion as the team fell to the Frostburg State Bobcats, 3-2, in the final match of the night at the University of Rochester Tournament.
After winning the third set Houghton led Frostburg, 2-1, but the Bobcats opened up a large gap in the fourth set, leading by as many as eight points late in the match (21-13). Houghton rallied to within a point, 21-22, before the Bobcats reeled off the final three points to send the match to a final set.
From start to finish the fifth set was never separated by more than two points as the two teams battled back and forth.
A kill by
Jaimee Glendenning at 13-13 gave the Highlanders match point and the serve, but a service error and a Bobcats ace quickly turned the tables.
Houghton again had match-point opportunities at 17-16 and 18-17, but could not put the match away. Frostburg rallied again, finishing the match on three straight kills to earn the win.
