HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Ten days ago the Houghton Highlanders defeated the Buffalo State Bengals in straight sets. Tonight, however, in the Highlanders home opener, the results would look much different.
With the match tied 1-1 the Bengals ran off eight straight points before the Highlanders made an eight-point run of their own to tie it. The game then seesawed between both teams before a Houghton attack error and a kill by the Bengals' Brooke Latour sealed the game.
The Highlanders seemed to regroup in the final set, jumping out to a 17-10 lead. The Bengals mounted a comeback, but with the set winding down Houghton still held a 23-20 advantage.
Buffalo State found a sudden burst of energy and reeled off five straight kills, three by Lauren Hansen, to take the set and the match.

COACH'S CORNER
"We didn't recover from our mistakes the way we needed to tonight. Every time we were up and made a mistake we opened the door and they took advantage of it.
"We have a few days before we play again and may need to take a look at some different options. Regardless, though, we'll regroup and come out ready to play on Saturday." –Coach
