KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- Just hours after earning Empire 8 Player of the Week honors for her play last week, senior
Jennifer Zacchigna tied her own school record with seven goals as she led Houghton women's lacrosse to a 15-4 win over Keuka College on Tuesday.
The host Wolfpack got on the board first with just over a minute into the contest, but it only took the Highlanders a minute to respond, as Zacchigna netted her first of the afternoon off an assist from
Chandler Jones. Houghton would score seven more times in the first half to take an 8-1 lead into the locker room. Zacchigna scored a total of four first-half goals, with
Meghan Oswald (twice),
Marissa Hews and
Kelsie Ashley also scoring. Despite the goal disparity, Houghton only outshot Keuka 16-10 over the first 30 minutes.
Zacchigna scored the first two goals of the second half in the first 1:18 and teammate
Alyssa Strom added two more in the next five minutes to give the visitors a 12-1 advantage. Another goal by Zacchigna and the second of the game by Hews made it 14-1 with 18:27 left. The Wolfpack worked to score three-straight, but Strom finished the scoring to earn herself a hattrick with a goal with 2:08 left on the clock.
Keuka outshot Houghton, 13-11, in the second half. Draw controls went in favor of the Highlanders, 15-6, led by Zacchigna's six on the day. Strom added five draw controls.
Jones finished with a game-high seven assists.
Alison Clark stopped 12 shots in 56:19 of action..
Sarah Olandt played the final 3:41 and did not need to make a save.
Houghton (2-6) returns to action when they travel to take on St. John Fisher on Saturday, April 8.
