Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Swept by #7 Cardinals

ROCHESTER, NY—The #7 St. John Fisher Cardinals (21-5, 6-2 Empire 8) combined excellent pitching with a bit of slugging to defeat the Houghton College Highlanders (7-17, 1-7 Empire 8) on Wednesday afternoon, 8-0 and 14-1.

Game One:
Lindsey Thayer held the Highlanders to only two hits while walking one and striking out 14.

The Cardinals scored two in the first on a homerun to centerfield then plated two more unearned runs in the second.

Houghton kept things close over the next three innings as Taylor Sile limited the Cardinals to three singles, one each inning.

But in the bottom of the sixth Fisher scored four more runs, capped by another homerun to left to end the game.

Bailey Shattell and Kaylee Jentsch posted the only two hits for Houghton.

Game Two:
Houghton worked their way out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first, but St. John Fisher's offensive power came through in a big way over the next three innings.

The Cardinals scored five runs in the second, five runs in the third and four more in the fourth.

Houghton scored their lone run in the top of the fifth when Jentsch doubled to centerfield, scoring Barbara Richert.

Jentsch and Richert each finished the game with two hits apiece, while McKenzie Marti and Taylor Sile each added a hit.

Next Time Out:
Houghton travels to the North Country this weekend, taking on St. Lawrence University on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and SUNY Canton on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
