Hatton, Jennings Late Heroics Lift Highlanders Past Ducks in OT

HOUGHTON, NYLess than a minute into overtime Caitlin Jennings beat a defender into the circle and slapped a pass across the goal mouth where junior Tanya Hatton drilled the ball into the back the cage, giving the Houghton Highlanders a 5-4 victory over the visiting Stevens Ducks.

In addition to her game-winning assist, Jennings scored two goals on the day, the second of which put the Highlanders up, 4-2, with a little over 15 minutes to play.

Stevens would not go quietly, scoring two minutes later and adding the equalizer on a penalty stroke with less than nine minutes to play.

In the closing seconds Stevens had another golden opportunity, but Houghton goalie Elizabeth Piszker deflected a shot off her pads and senior defender Marissa Hollinger stopped the ball from crossing the goal line with her stick.

Houghton picks up their second consecutive Empire 8 victory and returns to .500 overall.
