HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Three goals for the Highlanders in the second period helped Houghton field hockey claim a 3-1 victory over the visiting Concordia Falcons on Friday evening at Burke Field.
Samantha Hirsch opened the scoring 39:39 into the match, and goals by
Tanya Hatton and
Katelyn Cook would ensure the win for the Highlanders.
Concordia was able to muster up a goal within the last 10 minutes of the game by Rachel Scholz but that would be all for the Falcons.
"I'm proud of the girls for pulling out a win today," said head coach
Hannah Ogden. "Looking forward we need to start and end our games with more intensity and effort especially heading into more conference play."
Elizabeth Piszker improved to 3-2 on the season while Alyssa Palmer would drop to 0-2.
The Highlanders outshot the Falcons 14-8 on the night.
The Highlanders are back in action against Elmira College on Saturday, September 17 at 1 p.m. in Elmira.
