Late Rally Not Enough for Highlanders

BRADFORD, P.A. Despite rallying to win the third set and pressing to tie the match in the fourth, the Houghton College Highlanders fell to a strong University of Pittsburgh-Bradford team on Thursday night, 3-1.

>> After winning four straight points to tie the first set at 14-14, the Highlanders committed a pair of errors that led to eight straight Panther points in route to a 25-19 win.
>> Down 19-15 in the third, the Highlanders rattled off 10 straight unanswered points to take the set.
>> The two teams battled throughout the final set.  With Pitt-Bradford up 22-21, the Highlanders committed a costly service error and the Panthers finished the game two plays later on Mandy Finch's sixth kill of the day.

>> The Panthers outpaced the Highlanders on the offensive attack, converting 31.1 percent of their attacks to the Highlanders 16 percent.  Pitt-Bradford also turned in a dominant defensive performance at the net, blocking 23 attacks to Houghton's seven.
>> Erica Barney posted her second double-double of the season, racking up 15 kills and 20 digs, while adding four aces.
>> Anna Coryell had 32 assists, two aces and eight digs, while teammates Rebekah White and Ally Bittinger totaled 27 digs and 21 digs and three blocks, respectively.
