Softball Swept by Salisbury

SALISBURY, MD—The Salisbury University Seagulls hit and pitched their way past the visiting Houghton College Highlanders on Saturday, taking both ends of a doubleheader, 10-0 and 11-0.
 
The Seagulls plated a pair of runs in the first by way of a double, a triple and three stolen bases, grabbing an early 2-0 lead.
 
Houghton worked their way out of a jam in the second and allowed a single run in the third before the Seagulls opened the gates in the fourth, scoring seven runs on eight hits, including a leadoff home run by Caitlin Lake.
 
On the mound Salisbury starter Anna Brittingham pitched a five-inning complete game no-hitter, allowing only two batters to reach base while striking out 11.
 
In the second game, Houghton put up a zero in the first before the Salisbury bats came to life in the second, plating nine runs on nine hits, including two home runs.
 
The Seagulls would push across two more runs in the fourth to end the game after five innings.
 
Bailey Shattell (Syracuse, NY, Faith Heritage), Jessica Hayner (Waterford, NY, Shenendehowa ) and Alishia Foss (Medina, NY , Medina) each posted a hit for the Highlanders.
 
Brooke Mizelle picked up her ninth win of the year for the Seagulls, striking out eight over four innings of work.

Houghton returns to action on Thursday, March 24 when they host Geneva College in their first home doubleheader of the year at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex.  Game times are slated for 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
