BEAVER FALLS, PA—After inclement weather in Houghton, NY forced a relocation of the game site to Geneva College, the "visiting" Golden Tornadoes racked up 24 hits and took both games from the Houghton Highlanders
Game 1: Geneva jumped out an 8-0 lead in their first three frames, but the Highlanders clambered back in the bottom of the third. With two outs and runners on first and second, Houghton took advantage of a single by
Taylor Sile (Hilton, NY, Hilton ) and a pair of defensive errors to plate four runs.
The Golden Tornadoes, however, would continue their offensive attack, scoring in each of the next two innings to end the game after five innings, 12-4.
The GT's pounded out 17 hits in the win, including four doubles and a triple, and received multi-hit performances from seven different players.
Katelyn Cook (Clifton Park, NY , Shenendehowa) and
Alishia Foss (Medina, NY , Medina) each went 2-for-2 for the Highlanders.
Game 2: Despite a drastically reduced offensive attack in the second game, Geneva capitalized on every opportunity they had.
The GT's posted only seven hits and four walks, and Houghton committed only one defensive error, but Geneva left only two runners on base, making the most of their offensive opportunities.
Geneva scored one in the first, two in the second, then exploded for seven runs in the third, sending 11 batters to the plate.
Houghton shut down the potent Geneva offense for the remaining innings and picked up runs in the third on a Sile double and the fifth on a Foss ground out, but the Highlanders stranded seven runners and could not close the gap.
Jessica Hayner (Waterford, NY, Shenendehowa) was 1-for-3 with a double and four other Highlanders posted a hit apiece in the loss.
