WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- The second-seeded Grace College Lancers used two early goals to go up on No. 6 Houghton and held on for a 2-1 win in the NCCAA Midwest Region Semifinals on Friday.
Grace scored in the fourth and 12th minutes, but the Highlanders were able to respond on a goal by freshman McKenzie Marti off an assist from
Alexis Lamb in the 30th minute. To that point, the shots were even. Grace would lead in shots, 6-5, going into halftime.
The Lancers gained control offensively in the final 45 minutes, outshooting the Highlanders 11-3 after the break and held their lead to the final horn.
Starting keeper
Sadie Dunnett allowed both goals, while stopping two shots in 45 minutes of action.
Rachael Fortney came on in relief in the second half and made three saves.
Houghton's record falls to 10-7-3, while the Lancers improve to 7-7-4.
