Highlanders Fall in Final Quarter to Soaring Eagles

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles erased a six-point Houghton College lead entering the fourth quarter, outscoring the Highlanders 25-8 over the final 10 minutes of the game and taking the victory 56-67.
 
The Highlanders outscored the Soaring Eagles by one-point margins in each of the first two quarters.  While Elmira held slight advantages in rebounds and shooting percentage in the first half, the Highlanders capitalized on 10 Soaring Eagle's turnovers while giving the ball away only six times.
 
Houghton came out strong in the second half, quickly reeling off an 8-0 run in the first two minutes. 
 
After a brief comeback, the Highlanders built their lead back to nine with just less than three minutes to play in the third quarter.  Elmira closed the gap to six before the start of the final period.
 
The Soaring Eagles struck quickly in the fourth, scoring nine of the first 11 points to take the lead with less than eight minutes remaining.  While Houghton refused to go away, Elmira never relinquished the lead, capturing their victory.

      >Maisie Pipher (Lowman, NY, Twin Tiers Christian) scored 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and nabbed five rebounds.
      >Elle Reed (Sherman, NY, Sherman Central School) added 14 points and dished out a team-high three assists.

The Soaring Eagles:
      >Emily Green posted a game-high 18 points and added four steals.
      >Danielle Cleary and Jessica Brooks chipped in 16 and 12 points apiece, respectively.
       
Stat Analysis:
      >After shooting a respectable 37 percent in the first half, Elmira shot nearly 58 percent in the second half, including a blistering 75 percent (8-for-12) in the fourth quarter.  They also sank 9-of-11 from the foul line in the second half.
      >The Soaring Eagles owned the boards, outrebounding the Highlanders, 43-29.
