Houghton Loses Defensive Struggle to Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Tech Ducks closed the first half with an 18-3 run, overcoming a four-point Houghton Highlander lead and propelling them to a key Empire 8 victory, 37-52.
 
After leading by seven at halftime, the Ducks and Highlanders traded baskets for much of the second half, but Houghton never made significant headway on the Stevens lead, coming no closer than nine points for the remainder of the game.

The Highlanders:
      >Maisie Pipher (Lowman, NY, Twin Tiers Christian) scored 15 points, including 7-of-7 from the free throw line, brought down nine rebounds, and blocked a season-high six shots.
 
The Ducks:
      >Kaitlyn Astel put up 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
      >Anna Toke chipped in 10 points and five rebounds
       
Stat Analysis:
      >Stevens blocked 11 Houghton shots, while the Highlanders nearly matched the Ducks total with eight.
      >Neither team shot particularly well from the floor.  The Ducks managed only 18-61 (29.5 percent), and the Highlanders finished 12-46 (26.1 percent).
      >Stevens held a distinct advantage in second chance points, outscoring Houghton 23-11 on putbacks, thanks in large part to a 24-9 edge in offensive rebounds.
