Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wins over Hamilton College and SUNY Geneseo at the University of Rochester Tournament on Saturday pushed Houghton College volleyball to .500 on the season.

Houghton went 3-1 over the two days to take second place in the event. Senior Hattie Burgher (Selkirk, NY, Loudonville Christian) earned all-tournament honors.

Burgher had 14 kills and 13 digs in the 3-1 win over Hamilton in the opening match. Set scores were 25-19, 25-16, 18-25, 25-20.

Erica Barney (Vestal, NY, Vestal) chipped in with 11 kills and 14 digs, while Jessica Hayner (Waterford, NY, Shenendehowa) had a match-high 25 digs. Anna Coryell (Phelps, NY, Midlakes) finished with 39 assists to spearhead the attack.

The Highlanders closed the tourney with a 3-2 win over Geneseo (25-14, 20-25, 24-26, 25-23, 15-13), needing to overcome a 2-1 deficit, and going the distance in the final two sets.

Barney was strong on both sides of the ball, finishing with 10 kills and 20 digs, with Burgher adding 11 kills and 16 digs. Hayner once again produced defensively with 28 digs. Kayla Bernard (Aubrey, TX, Cisco CC) added 20 digs, while Coryell chipped in with 39 assists and 18 digs.

"We came out with two solid wins today. We controlled most of the game against Hamilton, then we lost momentum in the third set, but we turned it around in the fourth to secure the win," said Head Coach Nancy Cole. "We were able to play a very competitive match against a solid Geneseo team. Two evenly matched teams battled out every point. We were able to stay mentally strong and came out with a win after five long sets. After a rough start this weekend, we were able to build confidence and mental toughness finishing three matches against solid competition."

Houghton (5-5) plays its home opener on Thursday, September 17 against Pitt-Bradford.
