Bombers Sweep Highlanders

The Houghton College baseball team lost 13-3 and 6-1 in a doubleheader against the Ithaca College Bombers Friday afternoon.

In game one the Bombers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one and a half innings of play.

The Highlanders got on the board in the bottom half of the second when Brett Rapan (Bolivar, NY, Bolivar-Richburg ) hit a RBI double over the right fielders head that cut the Bombers lead to 4-1.

The Bombers took advantage of the Highlanders five errors in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings scoring nine runs. Giving them a commanding 13-1 lead.

Jens Omdal (Olympia, WA, River Ridge) and Tage Johnson (Jamestown, NY, Frewsburg) would scored in the bottom of the seventh, but the deficit was too much.

Andrew Sanders earned the win for the Bombers pitching six strong innings and Seth Cornell (Almond, NY, Alfred-Almond) was given his second loss of the season.

In game two the Bombers got on the board first when Trevor Thompson hit a two run homerun.

From there Bombers pitcher Benji Parks shut down the Highlanders, pitching a complete game and not allowing an earned run.

Kevin Cassar (Mississauga, ON, Canada, Our Lord of Mount Carmel) pitched six strong innings for the Highlanders, but was awarded the loss.

The Highlanders only run of the game came in the eighth when the Bombers catcher gave up a passed ball that allowed Christopher McKay (Oakville, ON, Canada, Homeschool) to score from third.

McKay led the Highlanders in the box score going two for three with a walk.

The Highlanders look to get back to their winning ways Monday against Keuka College at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex. First pitch of game one is set to be thrown at 1 p.m.
