HOUGHTON, N.Y.— The Bombers of Ithaca College brought their "A" game against the Highlanders' Women's Basketball team in Friday night's contest. Without execution on the limited scoring opportunities, the Highlanders gave the Bombers a 60-38 conference win.
With the help of both
Christel Enriquez-Fisher (Colorado Springs, CO, William Mitchell HS) and
Maisie Pipher (Lowman, NY, Twin Tiers Christian), Houghton stayed on Ithaca's heels in the 9-8 run at the start of the game.
Nearly halfway through the first period, Enriquez scored on a layup that would put the Highlanders in the lead. This lead was even more enhanced by
Hannah Manwaring's (Barton, NY, Tioga Central HS) 3-point shot. Regardless of the 4 point Houghton lead, Ithaca not only tied the game but pushed forward to take an 8 point lead.
Another Manwaring 3-pointer gave the Highlanders hope with just under 4 minutes left in the half; a close 25-20. The Bombers regained their momentum and took a 10 point lead before the end of the half.
The second half opened the Ithaca taking a 12-8 run lead. Up 44-30, the Bombers progressed by producing a 7 point rally before it was interrupted.
Ithaca took their biggest lead of the game with 24 points with nearly 3 minutes left in the game. Regardless of success at the free throw line in the latter part of the game, Houghton still fell short 60-38.
Enriquez had an impression 14 points and 6 steals in tonight's game, followed by Manwaring with 10 points and Pipher with 6 points.
The Highlanders play again tomorrow (2/7) at home against the Saxons of Alfred University at 2:00 p.m.
