UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Chandler Jones and Jennifer Zacchigna each scored four goals, but it wasn't enough for Houghton women's lacrosse, who dropped a 20-10 decision to John Carroll University on Saturday.
John Carroll scored three straight goals over the first four minutes of the game before Jones scored the first for Houghton. Alyssa Strom and Zacchigna added goals in the first half as the Highlanders went into the locker room down 9-3.
After surrendering two goals to start the second half, Houghton got two more goals from Zacchigna and another from Jones to pull to 11-6. The hosts put the game out of reach with seven-straight goals over an 11 minute span.
John Carroll outshot the Highlanders 25-20 on the day.
Kourtnie Franklin stopped two shots in goal.
The Highlanders (0-1) are back in action when they host Wells on Tuesday, March 3.
