Highlanders Fall Just Shy of First Win of the Year

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Highlanders softball team played two contests yesterday against the Hanover Panthers and Lyndon State Hornets in Clermont, Florida.

In the first game of the day against the Panthers jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead after 2 innings of play and they never looked back. The Panthers led the whole game and earned a 12-3 win over the Highlanders. The Highlanders were led by Georgianna Stoj (Depew, NY) who went 2 for 3 with two singles.   

In the second game the Highlanders fell just shy of their first win of the year. With the game tied at 4. The game went into extra innings using the international tie breaker, meaning each team starts with a runner on second base.

With Sarah Beirne (Port Jervis, NY) on second base the Highlanders played a little small ball. Adrean Tiffany (Loweville, NY) laid down a sac bunt to move Beirne over to third. Then Stoj hit a base hit to give the Highlanders a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the eighth, but the Hornets scored 2 runs in the bottom of the eight to give them the 6-5 victory.
