Camacho Catches Fire: Highlanders Win Third Straight

HOUGHTON, N.Y.—Brandon Camacho (Dundee, NY, Dundee High School) went 5-9 from beyond the arch, draining 21 points and dishing out five assists to lead the Houghton Highlanders (3-1) over the Villa Maria Vikings (4-11), 94-70, at the Nielsen Center.

A quick and athletic team, the Vikings came out strong, leading by as many as four points 10 minutes into the first half.

After a layup by Phil Pellegrino (Rochester, NY, Alfred University), a three-point play by Antonio Deadmon (Dallas, TX, Texas Southern) gave the Highlanders the lead for good.  They would finish the half on a 27-12 run and never looked back.

In the second half Pellegrino and Camacho caught fire, draining seven threes for the Highlanders.  Pellegrino scored 12 of his 14 points and Camacho added 13 of his 21.  On the night Houghton would shoot just under 40%, nailing 11 shots from three-point range.

Once again the Highlanders owned the boards, out-rebounding the Vikings, 49-41.

Johnathan Stowe (Toronto, ON, Canada, Don Mills Collegiate Institute) garnered his second double-double of the season, pulling down 11 boards and chipping in 14 points for the Highlanders.  He also dished out five assists.

Andre Diggs scored 13 points to lead the Vikings, while Darius Huggins added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Houghton has now won three straight for the first time in five years.

The Highlanders will take a well-deserved break over the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action on Wednesday, December 2, when they travel south of the border to take on the Panthers of the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford at 7:00 p.m.
