HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Houghton volleyball capped a perfect home invitational tournament with two more wins Saturday to bring their 2015 season to a close and send their six seniors out on a positive note.
The Highlanders grabbed a 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-16) win over Utica and a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-23) over Wells College.
Houghton finished the season with a record of 20-11 and closed the campaign on a four-match win streak.
Against Utica,
Hattie Burgher (Selkirk, NY, Loudonville Christian) turned in a monster performance with 16 kills (.350) and 13 digs.
Naomi Prentice (Linwood, NY, York Central) added 10 kills, while
Kayla Bernard (Aubrey, TX, Cisco CC) contributed 30 digs defensively.
Erica Barney (Vestal, NY, Vestal) had seven kills and 18 digs.
Anna Coryell (Phelps, NY, Midlakes) finished with 39 assists.
The final match of the season was another impressive performance from the Highlanders. Houghton had just six attack errors, recording 39 kills and hitting .324. It was another senior who led the attack against Wells.
Meagan Palm (Lakeland, FL, Lakeland Christian) finished her career with 12 kills and a .688 hitting percentage. Burgher had nine kills and 12 digs. Barney and Bernard each finished with 18 digs, while Coryell added 31 assists.
"I am so proud of the seniors today and the whole team," said Head Coach Nancy Cole. "It was an awesome finish to a good season."
Burgher and Palm were named to the all-tournament team.
