ITHACA, NY—The Houghton College women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to the Ithaca College Bombers in the final seconds of the second overtime period on a rainy pitch Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Highlanders to 4-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play while the Bombers improve to 5-3-1 and 2-0-1 in the Empire 8 standings.
With just 41 seconds remaining on the clock Ithaca's Holly Niemiec gathered a loose ball and crossed it into the box where Jess Demczar connected, skipping a right-footed shot past into the left side of the net.
Heading into the second overtime the Highlanders held an 18-13 advantage in shot, including 10 on goal. In the final minutes, however, Ithaca surged in their attack, outshooting Houghton 4-0.

Houghton will next face the Knights of SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday at 7:00 PM on Burke Field.
