GENESEO, N.Y. – Geneseo scored three second half goals to grab a 3-1 win over Houghton field hockey Wednesday night.
The Highlanders got on the scoreboard first when
Nicole Jennings (Vestal, NY, Vestal High School ) netted her second goal of the season off an assist from
Ashley Hughes (Fairport, NY, Fairport High School) in the 28th minute. Houghton would take that 1-0 into the locker room despite being outshot 9-4 in the first half.
The Knights increased their pressure on the attack as the second half started and tallied back-to-back goals over a 46 second span to take the lead. The goals came in the 47th and 48th minutes. Geneseo made it a two-goal cushion 10 minutes later and held on for the win.
Shots for the game went in favor of the Knights, 22-9, but penalty corners were closer at 12-11 for Geneseo.
Houghton keeper
Elizabeth Piszker (Glens Mills, PA, Cardinal O'Hara) had another strong night in goal with 16 saves.
Houghton falls to 7-7 on the season and will be back in action at home Saturday at noon in an E8 contest vs. Elmira.
