HOUGHTON, N.Y.-- The Highlander Field Hockey team tasted victory in tonight's game against the Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville, beating them 3-0.
After 8 Houghton shots on goal and nearly 21 minutes into the first period, Highlander
Leah Shadbolt (Kanata, Ontario, West Carleton Secondary School) scored, with the assist by
Kelsie Ashley (Landisville, PA, Hempfield HS). This would give Houghton a 1-0 lead over the Mustangs.
With 5 minutes left in the first period,
Hannah Zgrablich (Furlong, PA, Plumstead Christian) cleared the goal on a penalty stroke, putting the Highlanders up 2-0. Houghton goalie
Elizabeth Piszker (Glens Mills, PA, Cardinal O'Hara) was credited with 1 save in the first period.
Having a 2-0 lead, the third and final Highlander goal was credited to
Emma Strehle (Port Jefferson, NY, Earl L Vandermulen HS) just 16 minutes into the second period.
Colleen Sullivan (Salem, CT, East Lyme HS) contributed with the assist. Piszker got a little more action in the second period than in the first by having 3 saves.
Houghton outshot SUNY Morrisville 44-14, as well as 20-6 with shots on goal.
The Highlanders look forward to their next home game on Tuesday, October 14th where they will play Fairleigh Dickinson at 5pm.
