ONEONTA, N.Y. -- A 16-5 shots advantage wasn't enough to spell victory for Houghton women's soccer as the Highlanders lost 1-0 to the Hartwick Hawks on Wednesday.

Hartwick scored in the 19th minute to take an early 1-0, forcing Houghton to play catch-up the rest of the way. The Highlanders outshot the Hawks 7-4 in the first half and 9-1 in the second, but couldn't find the back of the net. Stephany Ellison (Whitesville, NY, Whitesville Central) took 12 shots, including six on goal.

Shawna Sprout (Portville, NY, Portville Central) made two saves in net.

The loss dropped Houghton below .500 (4-5 overall) on the season and put their E8 mark at 1-3. The Hawks improved to 6-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in E8 play.

Houghton is back in action on Homecoming Saturday at 1:30, taking on Lancaster Bible College on Burke Field.
