Jason Mucher first came to Houghton as a media specialist and sports information director in 1997 after serving two years as Assistant Director of Public Relations at Union College (Ky.).
He was later named Assistant Director of Public Relations at Houghton while still handling all SID duties in athletics. In 2002 he moved into a full-time athletics role as Director of Athletic Communications, where he continued working in communications while adding duties in sponsorship sales and providing oversight to the Highlander Sports Associates booster club. During this time, Mucher volunteered as the Sports Information Director for the Northeast Atlantic Conference and NAIA Region IX and served as the media coordinator for two NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournaments.
Mucher left Houghton in 2006 to serve as Communications and Media Relations Director at USA Triathlon, where he managed all communications efforts for the 115,000 member organization and helped to promote the organization's elite-level athletes. He served as press officer for triathlon and archery at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Mucher returned to higher education in 2009, serving as Director of Communications at Purdue University's College of Technology for three years.
He found his way back to Houghton in 2012 to serve as the Director of Compliance and Communication and was named Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Communication in 2014.
In his position, he provides strategic direction to communications initiatives for the Department of Athletics and its 16 intercollegiate teams, while ensuring coaches and athletes adhere to NCAA rules through a comprehensive education and monitoring program.
After receiving his bachelor's degree in mass communication from Taylor University, Mucher held internships with the Buffalo Bills (NFL) and the Rochester Americans (AHL). He also worked in radio before moving into higher education.
He went on to earn a master's degree in sport administration from Canisius College.
