Brandon Gettig

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Brandon Gettig re-joined the Houghton baseball coaching staff in the fall of 2024 after previously serving with the team from 2019-2021.  An incredibly versatile addition, Gettig primarily coaches infielders and outfielders, and spends ample time working with the team's hitters.

Gettig graduated from Penn State University-Dubois with honors in May 2019, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business with a management and marketing option.

A four-year member of the PSU-Dubois baseball team, Gettig joined the Lions for their inaugural campaign in 2015-16 and stayed long enough to win back-to-back USCAA National Championships in his junior and senior years.

Following his sophomore season, during which he hit .344, Gettig received First-Team All-PSUAC honors and was named USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year.  Two years later, he posted career highs in batting average (.398), on-base percentage (.488), doubles (15), triples (3), RBI (21) and stolen bases (13).  He was subsequently named First-Team All-PSUAC for a second time and named USCAA First-Team All-America.

Gettig finished his playing career with a .337 batting average and a .446 on-base percentage.  In 139 career games he walked 67 times while striking out only 43 times, swiped 41 bases and posted an impressive .964 fielding percentage, primarily at second base.

Away from the baseball diamond, Gettig worked four years for the Beaver Stadium Grounds Crew at Penn State University, performed marketing research for several businesses in the Dubois area, acted as secretary/treasurer for the Christian Student Fellowship at PSU-Dubois, and served at multiple locations along the east coast.

He currently lives in Rochester, New York and holds a full-time position serving high school and college athletes and coaches in coordination with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Head Coach Brian Reitnour’s comments:

“I’m very excited to have Brandon re-join our staff this year. He is an excellent coach--knowledgeable, creative, and well-spoken, and he cares deeply about the growth and development of the men in our program. He had a very successful playing career and has been well-prepared by Coach Caliari and others to coach college men.  However, I believe the most valuable asset he brings to our program is the desire to serve God and others.  I am greatly looking forward to working with him again.”
